We are one of the few pediatric dental clinics in the county that offers Nasoalveolar Molding (NAM), general anesthesia, and other sedation services through our affiliation with CHOC Children’s Hospital and the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of the University of Southern California.

Our History

2001
Small Beginnings

Children & Families Commission of Orange County, St. Joseph Hospital, and El Viento join forces to improve oral healthcare services for the children of Orange County.

2003
Healthy Smiles' Inception

Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County organizes as a California Public Benefit Company and obtains independent nonprofit status. 

2004
Early Growth

Children & Families Commission of Orange County, Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), and Boys & Girls Club of Garden Grove collaborate to develop a comprehensive pediatric health and dental center.

2005
Beginning Partnerships

Healthy Smiles opens its doors and launches an onsite pediatric residency program in partnership with the University of Southern California’s Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry. 

2006
Sedation Services are Offered

Healthy Smiles begins to offer treatment under sedation. 

2007
Smile Mobiles are Here!

With the generous support of the Pacific Life Foundation, Healthy Smiles introduces Smile Mobile 1, a two-chair dental clinic on wheels.

2010
CHOC Partnership

Healthy Smiles begins to offer dental services at CHOC Children's Hospital.

2013
Another Smile Mobile Hits the Road

Recognizing the success of Smile Mobile 1, the Pacific Life Foundation grants Healthy Smiles additional funding to put Smile Mobile 2 on the road. 

2015
Broadened Services are Offered

To maintain responsiveness to the needs of the community, Healthy Smiles incorporated a three-year strategic plan focused on adding more general anesthesia/sedation services and expanding regionally. 

2016
Teledentistry

Healthy Smiles launches our Teledentistry program, called Smiles X-Press, the only service that provides dental diagnostics, preventative care, and early intervention services in a child's classroom. 

2017
Teledentistry Expanded with POET

Healthy Smiles launches its POET (Prevention, Outreach, Education, and Treatment) program. POET provides dental services at schools and community sites.

2018
Mobile Unit Expansion

Healthy Smiles acquires its fifth mobile unit: The Dental Trailer.

2019
Garden Grove Clinic Expansion

The Garden Grove Clinic grew from 9 to 13 dental chairs with an expanded General Anesthesia Suite.

2020
Oral Health in a Pandemic

Telehealth for children and adults was developed as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021
Expansion to Healthy Smiles Now

Healthy Smiles expands its programs to serve adults and seniors as part of the Healthy Smiles Now initiative.
